Context
Eco-Fridge is a mobile application designed to change the food waste management experience and to raise environment awareness at household level in Sydney. It is a smart food management application which can be integrated with the user's refrigerator. This app can solve the fundamental issues of wasteful behaviour of users. At the same time, it can also serve as a good reminder for user groups that lack awareness, and cultivate a more sustainable lifestyle for users.
Research
Food waste is a common problem of global concern, but it is becoming a significant problem in Australia. According to statistics from the Australian Government, food waste has long plagued Australia for years, over 5 million tonnes of food ends up as landfill, and it is a huge number, it is enough to fill 9,000 Olympic sized swimming pools. The food waste phenomenon contains several significant behavioural drivers . The first factor is lack of awareness. The second factor is over-purchasing of groceries. Furthermore, the lack of kitchen skills is also an important reason.
